FREDERIKSHAVN CHURCH

FREDERIKSHAVN CHURCH, FREDERIKSHAVN, DENMARK

Frederikshavn Church. The church was consecrated in 1892 and was designed by architect Vilhelm Ahlmann. It was built in Romanesque style, partially inspired by Aachen Cathedral. The church is large, with seating for 1,100 guests, making it one of Denmark’s largest churches. ERIK Arkitekter oversaw a major interior and exterior restoration, which included material and aesthetic upgrades. Among these was a new lighting concept developed in collaboration with Okholm Lighting.

The church now appears brighter and simpler, and with the installation of 13 custom-designed LED ring chandeliers, the high-ceilinged church space is showcased like never before. The lighting concept was specifically developed for the church and its space, with LED ring chandeliers produced in three sizes: Ø100cm, Ø130cm, and Ø200cm. All are crafted in high-polished, lacquered brass. This variation allows for unique adaptations to the architecture of the space and creates a beautiful harmony between the church’s different areas. The minimalist design brings a sense of calm, while the adjustable up- and downlight functionality further enhances the ability to create stunning and solemn atmospheres, complemented by the light from the Gothic and round windows.
