MARGRETHE CHAPEL, HOLBÆK
Originally called Holbæk Crematorium, cremations are now consolidated in larger facilities, and the building is currently used as a chapel for funeral services. The chapel was designed by Royal Building Inspector Karsten Rønnow and accommodates 75 seated guests.
The lighting was designed by Rønnow Architects and consists of two matte-brushed, lacquered brass rings with a diameter of 5 meters. On these rings, 32 fixtures are mounted, each holding two church candles—one directed upwards and one downwards. The system features crown ignition, allowing the light to be turned on upwards, downwards, or in both directions simultaneously.
Similarly, wall-mounted fixtures were created for the niches using the same lighting technique but with only three fixtures on each. The matte brass finish of the fixtures blends beautifully and harmoniously with the room's other materials, including the yellow brick walls.
