GRAUKLOSTER, SCHLESWIG, GERMANY

A successful Danish/German collaboration between architect Jørgen W. Overby and Dipl.-Ing. Martin Jannsen resulted in a unique lighting solution for Graukloster in Schleswig. The solution, adapted to the monastery's historical style, includes many details, such as a reinterpretation of the torch in the form of the GREN wall lamp.

From 1982 to 1984, Danish architect Jørgen W. Overby oversaw the restoration of Graukloster in Schleswig. A couple of decades later, Overby was called upon again, this time for the refurbishment of the monastery after an arson attack. During this project, architect Overby took the opportunity to reassess some of the solutions chosen during the 1982–84 restoration. For the lighting, Overby selected fixtures from the GREN series. He explains:

"The GREN pendants and GREN wall lamps have an incredibly beautiful design, inspired by history in both material and form, where the branch can be seen as a reinterpretation of the torch. The pendants, too, with their brass material, maintain a fine connection to historic church lighting. The torch detail and the interplay between the chosen lighting and the monastery’s other design elements make the project unique."
