HOTEL HORNBÆKHUS, HORNBÆK, DENMARK
Hornbækhus entered a charming new era when Sus and Lennart Laiboschitz, creators of the Tiger retail chain, acquired the iconic wooden house from 1904. With its 36 rooms, it holds more than just walls and a roof—it embraces a history and soul preserved and revived with respect and reverence for its original architecture. Every detail of the renovation was carefully selected with a focus on sustainability and reuse, giving the place an authentic character and modern charm.
The interior design, created by Sus Laiboschitz in collaboration with architect and lighting designer Marianne Tuxen, harmoniously balances past and present. For the dining hall, Marianne Tuxen designed the impressive 7-arm chandelier "Carrousell," inspired by the graceful structure of a carousel. This chandelier combines classical and modern elements, and its opalized glass shades with concave shapes create a pleasant, diffused light free from glare—even when hung high above. "Carrousell" is also available in smaller versions with 3 and 5 arms, allowing for a cohesive design theme throughout.
The wall lamps in Hornbækhus each tell their own story, as they are carefully chosen recycled lamps found from various sources. This is a tribute to reuse, giving each lamp a new life and adding warmth and authenticity to the hotel's unique atmosphere.
