AMALIEHAVEN – A VISIONARY OASIS IN THE HEART OF COPENHAGEN
Situated on the historic Larsen Plads, with Amalienborg and Copenhagen’s harbor as its closest neighbors, Amaliehaven stands as a modern oasis and an ambitious feat of garden architecture. Conceived by Belgian landscape architect Jean Delogne, the garden first opened its gates on May 10, 1983, swiftly becoming a Copenhagen landmark. After 41 years, it reopened in 2024 following a comprehensive restoration that both honored its legacy and ensured its future.
TECHNOLOGY AND TRADITION IN LIGHT AND FORM
Okholm Lighting played a central role in rejuvenating the garden’s illumination, introducing modern LED technology while preserving its historic aesthetic. As Peter Okholm from Okholm Lighting remarked:
“Restoring Amaliehaven’s lighting has been a fascinating endeavor. By pairing cutting-edge technology with the original fixtures, we’ve created an atmosphere where light and shadow accentuate the garden’s unique details, making the experience truly magical—especially at twilight.”
The updated lighting not only brightens the garden but also lends it an almost ethereal ambiance, breathing new life into its materials and surfaces. The carefully calibrated brightness and color rendering complement the natural setting and iconic bronze work.
