ST. ANSGAR KIRCHE

ST. ANSGAR CHURCH, SCHLESWIG, GERMANY

The church was originally built in 1899 and has undergone several renovations over the years. However, in 2015–2016, it underwent a comprehensive renovation aimed at securing the church’s structure and modernizing its interior and facilities, all while preserving the historic atmosphere and architectural details. Both the roof and façade were repaired, and the interior was thoroughly restored, focusing on retaining the original artistic elements, such as the colorful stained-glass windows and altarpieces.

As part of this project, Lambrecht Architektbüro designed an entirely new lighting concept for the church in collaboration with Okholm Lighting. The architects chose to use two of Okholm Lighting’s "standard fixtures": SCAN chandeliers and DYBBØL fixtures. The SCAN ring chandeliers fit perfectly into the church’s geometric shapes, blending seamlessly with the architectural arches to create a unique and beautiful harmony.

Technically, all the fixtures are dimmable, allowing both the nave and aisles to be lit through this solution. The integrated dimming feature enables different light levels and, in turn, varying atmospheres. At the center of the choir vault, a large SCAN ring chandelier is suspended, while DYBBØL fixtures are used in and around the organ loft. In the confessional in the sacristy and along the staircase leading to the organ loft, DYBBØL wall and ceiling fixtures have been installed, blending beautifully and harmoniously with the rest of the interior.
