THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

THE AUDITORIUM OF THE ROYAL AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE, FREDERIKSBERG, DENMARK

On May 29, 2000, a gas explosion devastated the octagonal banquet auditorium, originally designed by architect Mogens Gottlieb Bindesbøll, who also created Thorvaldsens Museum, along with significant portions of the main building of the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Frederiksberg.

The auditorium has often been referred to as the most beautiful in Northern Europe. The reconstruction was led by Erik Architects (formerly Erik Møller’s Studio) in collaboration with Royal Building Inspector Jens Fredslund.

Okholm Lighting supplied the new lighting, which serves both a decorative and highly functional purpose.

Special custom-made versions of the track lighting system, wall luminaires, lectern lamps, and step lighting were developed for the project.

The auditorium has been rebuilt with great reverence for its original appearance.
