In the former Danish Incandescent Lamp Factory A/S, Zeni Architects has created a forward-thinking educational facility where innovation and history go hand in hand. The building, partially listed for preservation, harmoniously combines new and old architecture, making the project a living tribute to the site's industrial heritage.
At the heart of the hall floats a monumental light sculpture, inspired by the church's star vault—a creative interpretation that emphasizes the site's name and history—Glødelampen. Created by lighting designer Marianne Tuxen in collaboration with visual artist Erik Steffensen, who was responsible for the overall decoration, the sculpture exudes an almost poetic duality: a cool LED core reminiscent of the clear purity of opal glass, and a warm outer glow that evokes associations with the classic light of the incandescent lamp. This impressive lighting artwork stands as a luminous symbol of VUC Syd's transformation—a synergy between past and future, function and art, engaging and inspiring young people in their learning journey.
